Climate change presents massive and unprecedented challenges – how do we reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, increase capacity to meeting growing demand, and decarbonise our lifestyles, whilst at the same time keeping energy affordable and eliminating fuel poverty? Much of the early focus in solving these problems has been on generating renewable energy from non-carbon producing sources, but opportunities from energy efficiency are probably at least equally important.

The global energy efficiency industry has the potential to be a trillion dollar industry that really saves the planet. Our speakers will introduce us to cutting-edge technologies and techniques for energy efficiency, providing case studies and examples including advanced analytics, use of a ‘smart grid’ and reduction of energy usage by IT infrastructure. They will demonstrate how collaboration between consumers of energy and solution providers can produce real efficiencies and cost savings.

Norman Crowley
Norman is Chairman and Founder of Crowley Carbon, which assists companies and other organisations to reduce their energy consumption. Norman is an experienced technology entrepreneur. In 1994, he founded Trinity Commerce, one of the first eCommerce services companies in the world, and sold the majority of the business to Eircom Plc in 1999. In 2001, Norman co-founded Inspired Gaming Group, which became the world’s largest player Server Based Gaming (SBG) company and floated on the London Stock Exchange in 2006. He also co-founded The Cloud, Europe’s largest WiFi operator, and sold it to 3i in 2005. Norman is on the board of The Next Step, a charity dedicated to looking after disabled children in the Republic of Georgia.

Will Siddall
Will leads IBM’s advanced analytics and optimisation work in the UK utilities industry, encompassing water, electricity and gas. He has helped numerous utility companies use data to solve complex business problems and transform their organisations in areas such as energy trading and risk management, market simulation, energy pricing, and generation emission forecasting. For the past two years, Will has been working on the smart metering programmes of several UK energy retailers. His work has included performing complex analysis on trial meter data, meter deployment modelling, and smart meter strategy and business case definition.
